Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you and what are you doing in life?
I’m Elena, 22, and I’m currently purchasing my master’s degree in Philosophy and TFM [theatre- film- and media studies]. Prior to that, I did my Bachelor’s in Philosophy and theology. I have a thing for knitted socks and the first days of spring.
What are some of your favorite places in Vienna?
I like spending time in the city library [Hauptbücherei am Gürtel] and Café Weidinger, which is just around the corner. I also like walking around in the woods of Ottakring and make a stop at Villa Aurora afterwards. I appreciate this place especially during the cold months since they happen to have a wood-burning stove in their winter garden.
How would you describe your personal style? What is a good fashion sense?
Proust once wrote that one doesn’t talk about style unless one has not yet achieved it or has lost it again. I would not go that far, but I think there is at least a little truth behind that quote. The trick is to look stylish, yet natural and authentic. And most importantly, you should not have to worry about conventions. You can tell, if someone’s clothes are right for them and if they feel comfortable wearing them. No matter how fancy or traditional someone’s style is, it is only a matter of credibility. Accordingly, for me, the best sense of style is one that is natural and authentic. This is what I’m aspiring as well. Some days I’m succeeding, sometimes I’m not doing well, but that’s just part of the learning process.
What would you describe as the greatest challenge of our time?
That we learn to use our resources sustainably. By that, I mean both environmental resources, as well as human resources. But that is certainly not the only problem: There is xenophobia and as well the resurgent protectionism of some countries
A song you can always listen to?
I cannot limit myself to one. Some of them are: "What You Isn’t" / Brian Jonestown Massacre, "Copy of a" / Nine Inch Nails and Warszawa von David Bowie. Recently I've been listening to "Infinite" / Kult des Pan a lot.
A must-see movie?
Houdini and Company! A super nice movie that reflects on the belief in the magic of life.
A book everyone should have read?
The fairy tales of Oscar Wilde because they are simply incredibly beautifully written. And "Karlchen oder die Tücken der Tugend" of Heinz Liepmann, a very good book, which unfortunately is far too unknown.
Which INA KENT bag is your favorite and why?
I fell for LALA – the perfect accessory for all necessary utensils. I like the design and compact size. But I also appreciate ILIA’s versatility. It looks like a classic handbag but can be transformed into the most practical duffle bag. Plus, it has plenty of space and inner pockets, what I find important as well.
Dear Elena, thank you for the interview!
